Minecraft: getting started
1. Open your control panel
Log in at rapidhosting.uk, open your Minecraft service and click Open control panel. You're signed straight in: no second account. The How to join box at the top of the Console shows your server address and exactly how to connect.
On first start you'll be asked to accept the Minecraft EULA in the Console. Accept it and the server finishes starting.
2. Server type and version
In the Minecraft tab choose Paper or Purpur (fast, plugins), Vanilla, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge (mods), or a modpack from Modrinth, and the Minecraft version. The server reinstalls; your world is kept. Before you switch:
- Make a backup first (Backups tab). Going back to an older Minecraft version can corrupt a world.
- Leaving a modded type: blocks, items and creatures from those mods are permanently removed from the world when it loads without them.
- Installing a modpack replaces the
modsfolder and resets the pack's own settings files to the pack's defaults. - Big modpacks need 6–8 GB of RAM.
3. Plugins and mods
Search Modrinth right in the Minecraft tab and install plugins (Paper/Purpur) or mods (Fabric/Forge/NeoForge) in one click; anything they need is installed too. Remove asks before it deletes a file. Restart the server to load changes.
4. Players
See who's online and op, kick or ban them, and manage operators, the whitelist and bans without typing commands.
5. Settings and world
- Settings: difficulty, game mode, max players, MOTD, view and simulation distance, whitelist, hardcore and more. Only the settings your Minecraft version uses are shown.
- Download world saves your world as a zip (a copy also stays in Files: delete it there to free space).
- Reset world deletes the world (overworld, Nether and End) for a brand new one, optionally with a seed. Everything built in it is lost, so download it or back up first.
6. Connect
Copy the address from the How to join box, then in Minecraft go to Multiplayer → Add Server and paste it.
7. Automatic restarts and backups
Under the Console, the Automation box turns on a daily restart (players get a 60-second warning in chat) and a daily backup at a time you choose (UK time). Daily backups keep your most recent backups and replace the oldest automatically; lock a backup in the Backups tab to keep it for good. You can take and restore backups yourself at any time from the Backups tab. Restoring a backup replaces the server's current files with the ones in the backup.
